A fool for Christ - Lita's story

I have been encouraged to give my side of the story of our ministry life. So where do I start? I guess it should be at the beginning…so come with me as I tell you my story.

I was saved when I was 5 years old. When I was 6 years old my parents moved to Romania as missionaries where they started a camp ministry. Growing up in the ministry I had many opportunities to serve and to see the hand of the Lord at work in the people around me, but just because you grow up in the ministry does not mean that you will feel any desire to be a part of it when you move away from home.

By the time I was 18 I had decided that I was not going to have anything more to do with the ministry. I wanted to live a “normal” life: to have a job, to have a family, and go to church on Sundays. I spent a year in the United States where the Lord led me to realize that my place was not there…I needed to go back to Romania and spend a little more time in that country.

"Ok Lord, after all, I know Romania, my family and friends are there. It will not be too difficult to spend some more time in the ministry."

Soon after going back to Romania Ovi and I were married, and we really did try a second time to live the “normal” life, but there was always that thought, "Is this really what the Christian life is about?" Is it about going to church on Sunday and spending the rest of the week living for ourselves? There must be more to the Christian life then this!

It was after coming to this realization that we fell to our knees one night and for the first time truly dedicated ourselves to do whatever the Lord wills. Remember this, when you dedicate yourself to the Lord and tell Him that you will go…He will take you up on it.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.Romans 12:1

The Lord took us up on it. He showed us the need for missionaries in Africa, He gave us a burden for the people of Malawi, He put in us a sadness, deep down in our hearts, for all those people that go through life never hearing about the wonderful Good News that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!Romans 10:13-15

So we made the decision; we were going to leave for Africa. That is when we found out that my father was suffering from terminal cancer. This was not an adventure, it was probably the hardest day of my life when I watched my family pack up and leave Romania for the last time. It was just Ovi, Jessica and I at that point…and the Lord.

So what happened? Well, we went to Malawi: the Lord was faithful and true and kept us close to Himself. My father went to be with the Lord: the Lord was faithful and true and kept us close to Himself. We are still in Malawi Africa serving as the Lord leads us, and do you know what? The Lord is still faithful and true and still keeps us close to Himself.

Being active in missions is not always easy, but it is worth it, because our Lord is worth it! A "normal" life of going to church on Sunday is no kind life for a Christian. Only a life of service and faith in the Lord is worth living.

For the world I am probably a fool, but as a Christian I believe that what we are doing is only a reasonable service after how much the Lord has done for us! How could I do any less?

So are you living a normal life? Or maybe you are starting to think about doing something more? I urge you to put your faith in the Lord and serve Him because He is worth it!

"Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.Luke 10:2
